A CHARTER ORDINANCE LIMITING THE TERM OF OFFICE FOR THE MAYOR OF TOWANDA, KANSAS, TO BE ELECTED IN 1983.
WHEREAS, the governing body of the City of Towanda, Kansas, did by Charter Ordinance No. 1, dated October 3, 1961, stagger the terms of office of elected officials by restricting the mayor to be next elected to a term of two years, and
WHEREAS, the provisions of said charter ordinance were never, in fact, implemented.
Section 1. On the
first Tuesday in April, 1983, the regularly scheduled election for mayor shall
be conducted. The mayor then elected shall hold office for two years and until
his successor is elected and qualified. At the election in 1985 and each four
years thereafter, the mayor shall be elected to hold office for four years and
until his successor is elected and qualified.
Section 2. The
City of Towanda, Kansas, is a mayor-council city of the third class and by
Article 12, Section 5 of the Constitution of the State of Kansas hereby elects
to and exempts itself from and makes inapplicable to it, K.S.A. 15-201 insofar
as the provisions herein are inconsistent with the same.
